Chinese Premier meets Kayani on his two-day visit to Pakistan

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani on his two-day trip to Pakistan. The meeting was held in Islamabad while Naval Chief Admiral Mohammad Asif Sandila and Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee Khalid Shameem Wyne were also present.

During his speech on Wednesday, Mr Li affirmed that his government will work towards strengthening strategic ties between the two nations. He said the connection between Pakistan and China cannot be touched by any political or economic element. He termed the relation between the two countries as unique and endurable.

On Wednesday, President Asif Ali Zardari awarded Pakistan’s highest civil award – Nishan-i-Pakistan – to the Premier to honor his undying efforts towards maintaining the ancient relation between the two countries.

“(This) visit will mark yet another important step forward in reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two countries,” President Zardari remarked.

The leadership of both countries discussed the creation of economic linkages, enhancing trade and diversifying cooperation in various fields. Later, a press conference was held during which President Zardari said the agreements on Gwadar Port; Fibre Optic and Satellite connectivity and signing of a number of MoUs and documents are manifestation of the dream coming true.

In his remarks, Mr. Li said the two countries can create a joint economic corridor linking central and western parts of China and Pakistan.  This will have strategic significance for development of China, South Asia, Asia, and peace and stability in the region.
