Halton police homicide detectives have made a development in the case of a young toddler who died after being left alone in a hot car for long last week. Police has legally charged and arrested the boy’s maternal grandmother, who was responsible for taking care of the child at the time of his death. 51-year-old Leslie MacDonald has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessities of life. Later Leslie was allowed to leave after she promised in writing to appear in court on August 14.
The incident incurred on Wednesday, June 26, when police was called on to a subdivision in Milton, west of Toronto, where they discovered the body of Maximus Huyskens inside a sweltering sedan parked behind the family home. Later, the investigation took lead of the autopsy report that showed the boy passed away because he was left alone in the car for “an extended period of time” since the temperature was extremely high at the time. Parents of the toddler, Marcus and Tamara Huyskens, were away from the house on Wednesday.
A funeral was arranged for the toddler by his family at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Milton on July 3. In his obituary, they describe the boy as “gracious and benevolent.” It was stated that “he was a boy who loved to talk about birds in the sky and whales in the water. He was a boy who would always pick a flower for his parents whenever he saw one.”
