There is one less person contending to become the new leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, as MPP Glen Murray pulls out from the bid to replace Dalton McGuinty. MPP Glen Murray made the official announcement on Thursday declaring that he is quitting his candidacy campaign, while alleging support to the forerunner and top contender of the position, Kathleen Wynne. This is not really a good news for the second favorite choice among all contenders, i.e. Windsor’s Sandra Pupatello

The official announcement was made during a joint press conference of Wynne and the former Winnipeg mayor, Glenn Murray. Murray described Wynne as “the best person to be premier of Ontario,” while Wynne replied complimenting that Murray is a “class act” and promised him a “senior role” in her cabinet, in case she wins.

On the other hand, Pupatello seemed casual during a phone interview after the development. She alleged that “It’s a good opportunity for me,” hinting that “there are folks who were supporting Glen who, now that Glen is off the list, I can go and ask to support me.” Pupatello further implied that sudden drop of Murray doesn’t specifically means that his supporters will assuredly declare support for Wynne. In fact she pointed out that during the election meetings which will take place in Liberal riding associations across Ontario this weekend, those former Murray supporters will now be attributed as “independents.” Soon after the joint press-conference of Murray and Wynne, Pupatello announced that Murray’s former campaign chairwoman Elinor Caplan has joined the Pupa-tello team.
