A press conference was called by Mayor Michael Applebaum on Tuesday morning, in which he openly refuted all sorts of allegations laid against him indicating that he had any past dealings with a suspected members of the local underworld.  These allegations against Applebaum attribute to a report, which states that he was involved in organizing a fundraising event in 2003 at La Cantina restaurant, which was owned by a Federico Del Peschio, who turned out to be very close to Rizzuto clam.

Applebaum openly clarified that “when I went to this fundraising event, I was not a member of the executive committee and all the rules were respected.” He further elaborated that he was only invited to discuss a controversial project of condo development built at Upper Lachine and Wilson at the time he was mayor for the district. Developer tycoon, Tony Magi, who is also suspected of having close relations with Mafia, was awarded the funding to get the project built. In past, Magi has once been charged with a weapons offense in 2010, while he also underwent a shooting on Cavendish in 2008.

Applebaum alleged that “I do know Mr. Magi,” but “The first time I saw Mr. Magi was in a public meeting where he wanted to demolish a Dairy Queen and build a project at Sherbrooke and Westhill. I opposed the project.” Furthermore, Applebaum pointed out that he has not seen Magi since 2008. He stated that “I am an honest person, with integrity and I have nothing to apologize for. You cannot buy me.”
