Apologizing for the traumatic outturn of events on Sunday, CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif vowed to rehabilitate the tragedy-struck areas of Lahore. The Christian community all over Pakistan stood united to record their protest against the Badami Bhag incident.

CM Shahbaz Sharif announced PKR 300,000 increase in assistance for each Badami Bagh tragedy-affected person. He said the reconstruction of damaged houses has already commenced and it will be finished in four days. He was discussing the matter with Christian leaders at a meeting in Model Town on Sunday.

“One hundred and thirty-one persons have been arrested and the Anti-Terrorists Court take up the case. The attack on Christians has brought shame on the nation. I, as a head of provincial government seek apology from Christians over this tragedy. There is no justification of such acts after the arrest of accused,” he said.

According to Shabaz Sharif, the Punjab government has officially requested the Lahore High Court registrar to launch a judicial probe into the arson. On the other hand, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken a Suo Moto notice against the mob attack in Joseph Colony. The hearing will begin today Monday. The SCP has summoned Inspector General Punjab Police and Advocate General and directed them to generate a detailed report pertaining to the incident.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights Chairman Riaz Fatyana has also summoned the Punjab IGP on March 14. Fatyana said it was the constitutional obligation on the part of Punjab government especially law enforcing agencies to protect the Christian community.

“The standing committee has taken notice of the police negligence and has summoned the IGP to explain his position,” Fatyana said.
