This Friday, Nov. 19 at 5:45 PM, FC Dallas defender Ugo Ihemelu and Colorado Rapids defender Marvell Wynne will take a penalty kick towards a bulls-eye at the base of Toronto’s iconic CN Tower. At stake is not a game winning goal, but an opportunity to light the tallest tower in the world (1815 feet / 533 meters) in the red and grey colors of MLS Cup 2010. The Tower will again be lit in the MLS Cup colors on game day, Sunday, Nov. 21, until a champion is crowned, at which time the Tower will change colors to reflect the colors of the winning team.
Ihemelu, 27, was born in Nigeria but moved with his family to Winnipeg, Manitoba, then Dallas, Texas, during his childhood. He has dual Canadian-U.S. citizenship and his siblings were born in Canada.
Wynne, 24, played for Toronto FC from 2007 through this past March, when he was traded to Colorado in exchange for Nick LaBrocca and a draft pick.
MLS Cup 2010 will take place at BMO Field in Toronto on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. ET, marking the first time the championship game is played outside the United States. The game will be televised live on TSN2 in Canada, ESPN and Galavision in the United States, as well as in 166 other countries around the world.
