Outfest celebrates 30 years of presenting its Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. Since 1982 more than 5,600 films depicting the lives and experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people have been seen by audiences numbering in the millions. Outfest 2012 presents a screening of the Swedish film She Male Snails (Pojktanten) . This compellingly titled film tells the story of a “boy hag” who finds himself caught between two genders and creates a third in order to survive. First intended to be a documentary about transgender artist-writer Eli Leven, She Male Snails evolved over time into a gorgeous poetic fantasy that has been compared to early Derek Jarman films. The film won the Nordic Vision prize at the 2012 Gothenburg Film Festival for its provocative visual style as well as the Audience Award.
