Toronto Catholic District School Board announced its decision in a press statement on Wednesday, declaring that Mayor Rob Ford will no longer be coaching the Don Bosco Eagles high school football team. The press statement mentioned that “the board has informed Mr. Ford of our decision to pursue a different direction with a new volunteer head coach,” while also extending a thank you note for “many years of service” of the mayor.

The board refrained from mentioning any specific reason to have helped them in making the decision, although it has uncanny timing with recent drug video allegations against the mayor. It is reported that the decision was reached in result of complaints and expression of disappointment by the teachers and parents regarding the way Mr. Ford portrayed the high school and its students. The direction of education, Bruce Rodrigues, alleged that “this decision was based on what is best for our students, our school and the Don Bosco community.”

The head of Don Bosco’s parent council, Doreen Way, commented on the news released on Wednesday, asserting that she “supports the decision.” The official statement issued by the parent council states that “we appreciate the care and time taken by the Board to engage in extensive consultations with all stakeholders on this issue before making its decision.” It adds that “we thank Mr. Rob Ford for the 11 years that he has dedicated to the Eagles.  He has done a great job coaching the team.  We wish him all the best.”
