Addressing reporters at the Thorncliffe Park pregnancy clinic in her Don Valley West riding, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne announced on Monday that despite many changes expected in the upcoming budget beer will not be allowed to be sold at convenience stores. She alleged that the spring reform will include many changes, but it one change that should not be expected will be allownace of the permit to sell beer at convenience stores.

The premier flat out rejected the notion by saying that the distribution system is under observation of the officials in the province. As a result of looking into the Liquor Control Board of Ontario, the Beer Store is also being investigated. The Finance Minister Charles Sousa is anticiapted to announce the budget in March and give a clearer picture of the relationship between the Beer Store and the government.

The Beer store is owned by three big foreign companies, inclduing Labatt, Molson, and Sleeman. The Beer Store has withheld the sales of the craft brewers in Ontario. The former TD bank chair, Clark, has recommended the foreign company to pay a franchise fee to the taxpayers if they do not agree to it, the company may be auctioned to see what its worth. The Beer Store tried to compensate by offering the local brewers a chance to purchase shares of the company at a rate of $100 a piece but the crafters have refused to buy into it and are waiting to see how the government brings reforms to deal with these issues.
