Toronto FC announced Tuesday that the club has signed Academy goalkeeper Quillan Roberts.
“Quillan is a young goalkeeper that posses strong qualities that we like. This signing is continuing our vision of youth development and Academy players transitioning into the senior side,” said Toronto FC Head Coach and Technical Director Aron Winter.” We are convinced he can continue to develop now with the first team.”
Roberts, 17, becomes the seventh player in club history to sign with the First Team after graduating from the Academy program. Roberts spent time with the First Team during this past preseason and has continued to train with the club.
He represented Canada at the 2011 FIFA U17 World Cup in Mexico, starting in two group stage matches. The goalkeeper scored a goal off a free kick against England in a 2-2 draw.
